About Carroll County Public Schools
Carroll County Public Schools uses the Cognitive Abilities Test for universal screening in 2nd and 6th grades with additional identification in grades 3-5 and 6-9. Students scoring in the 8th or 9th stanine are identified as possessing traits of giftedness, with further review for those scoring 7th stanine or 8th/9th on nonverbal sections. The district emphasizes that identification uses multiple measures and is not based on one test score alone.
